“Columbia Blade” at Woodward Canyon Winery
Columbia Blade 1994
Woodward Canyon Winery has a wonderful article about Frank and his “Columbia Blade” bronze sculpture installed on the front lawn of the winery.
Excerpt:
The east side of the “Columbia Blade” is a casting of a basalt formation along the Columbia River made in 1993 or 1994. It is a compendium of Frank’s thoughts, concerns, and the great experiences of his childhood wandering with his parents all over the Columbia Gorge and river, fishing and experiencing the vast petroglyphic history now buried beneath the waters of dams. Frank Boyden awarded the 2009 Ray Trayle Print Prize
The Ray Trayle Print Prize Committee has chosen Frank Boyden as the winner of the Ray Trayle Print Prize for 2009. The award ceremony is Friday, June 12 from 5:30 to 7pm at the Portland Art Museum in the Andree Stevens Room. Refreshments will be served. The event is being hosted through the generosity of the Friends of the Gilkey Center.
The Print Prize Committee has selected Frank for many reasons… for his compelling visual conscience regarding human nature, ecology and the role of the artist as a singular voice of the collective soul. He also has an ability to discover and convey great beauty with haunting overtones. He has fostered significant artistic enterprises and mentored emerging artists. His prints are beautiful, edgy and inspiring. Above all, Frank is unafraid of taking risks as a visual artist and as an artist of conscience. He reflects the same spirit of generosity that we find in Ray Trayle. It is a generosity for which the world is hungry, a generosity that we celebrate with this prize.
